Data & Insights Manager
Portfolio scale. Reporting and measurement are delivered through a team; your hands-on work is exception-based. This role brings direct commercial accountability. You oversee portfolio utilisation, margins and client retention, and you manage Leads rather than individual contributors. You are accountable for the data work your team delivers across client projects; the team runs that work day to day. You keep enough expertise in data and insights to judge quality, and build capability across the team.
How this role differs
You move from leading a pod to owning a portfolio commercially, and you take on formal line management, probation and progression decisions for the team.
The Manager owns the team, the tooling and the commercial health of reporting delivery. The Data & Insights Consultant owns the measurement method and the escalations, without owning headcount.
Roles and responsibilities
- Own delivery performance across the portfolio, making sure research, analysis and reporting meet agreed quality standards, deadlines and client objectives.
- Set consistent standards for source evaluation, methodology, documentation and quality assurance, while making sure approaches suit each account.
- Plan team capacity and allocate resources against agreed priorities, resolving conflicts and anticipating delivery risks.
- Own the commercial health of delivery, balancing scope, hours, budgets and profitability with the value of the work to clients.
- Make tooling decisions within agreed budgets, assessing reliability, capability, cost and suitability for the team's needs.
- Review whether recurring reports and analysis inform decisions, improving or retiring work that no longer serves a clear purpose.
- Oversee significant data quality or delivery escalations, making sure clients receive clear explanations, corrective action and realistic expectations.
- Develop the team's ability to present findings, handle methodology questions and pushback, and maintain confidence in the work.
- Work with PR and SEO Managers to make sure data work supports shared client objectives.
- Lead a team of four to six, including Leads, and be accountable for the quality of everything it produces.
- Line-manage the team through the full cycle: objectives, probation reviews, calibration, ratings, progression cases and formal performance management.
- Make hiring decisions for Executive and Lead roles, from writing the brief through to the offer recommendation.
- Retain the team: spot flight risk early and act on it before it becomes a resignation.
