Data & Insights Consultant
Portfolio-scale expertise, with delivery happening through people following your method. You own outcomes without owning headcount, and you are the recognised expert voice in the discipline. You still work directly on the most complex client projects, doing the expert work yourself. You codify your expertise in data and insights so others can apply it without you.
How this role differs
You move from holding depth across several accounts to owning the method for the discipline across a portfolio, including its budgets and profitability.
The Consultant owns the method and the hardest measurement problems, without owning headcount. The Data & Insights Manager owns the team, the tooling and the commercial health of reporting delivery.
Roles and responsibilities
- Own research and measurement methods across the portfolio, defining when different approaches are appropriate and what credible evidence looks like.
- Design approaches for unfamiliar or complex questions, assessing feasibility, assumptions and limitations before recommending how to proceed.
- Resolve escalated methodological problems, drawing on technical or subject specialists where additional expertise is needed.
- Review and challenge research and measurement designs before significant resources are committed.
- Advise senior client stakeholders on decisions informed by data, distinguishing what the evidence supports from what remains uncertain.
- Develop reusable methods, validation checks and documentation that teams can apply accurately without depending on your continued involvement.
- Advise Data & Insights Managers on the methodological implications of tooling choices, including capability gaps and trade-offs.
- Own budgets and make sure projects are profitable.
- Work independently on the most complex client projects, doing the expert work yourself and adding value to the account teams you support.
- Build growth cases, upsells and scopes that win on the strength of the thinking.
- Develop others through specialist coaching and strategic feedback, without line management responsibility.
