Senior Data & Insights Lead
Everything a Data & Insights Lead does, held consistently across more accounts and more people. You lead a pod, a small delivery team working across a shared set of accounts, and hold its delivery standards independently. Formal performance processes sit with the Manager; you run the structured development conversations that feed them. You are accountable for the data work your pod delivers across client projects, rather than running each project yourself. You develop expertise in data and insights across the pod, so quality does not depend on you.
How this role differs
You become the final review for deliverable quality, and your people responsibilities shift from in-the-moment work notes to structured development conversations.
The Senior Lead holds reporting quality across a team and develops their analytical capability. The Senior Data & Insights Strategist solves the measurement problems nobody else can, and mentors by craft.
Roles and responsibilities
- Hold responsibility for research, analysis and reporting quality across multiple accounts, making sure work meets agreed briefs, deadlines and client objectives.
- Maintain consistent standards for source evaluation, calculations, documentation and quality checks, while adapting methods to each brief.
- Make sure shared metrics are defined consistently, and that differences in sources, time periods or methodology are clearly explained.
- Establish review points that catch weak evidence, unsupported claims and measurement problems before findings reach clients.
- Work with PR and SEO leads to agree feasible briefs, realistic timelines and the evidence needed to support campaigns and recommendations.
- Handle difficult client questions about data quality, methodology or delays, explaining the resolution and maintaining confidence in the work.
- Improve recurring workflows and reporting based on errors, rework and stakeholder feedback, checking whether changes improve quality and usefulness.
- Own a pod end to end (its plan, its quality bar and its output) without a senior signing off routine work.
- Monitor hours on the pod's project work against deliverables and results, identifying ways to improve efficiency and quality.
- Support the Manager with line management for the pod: run regular one-to-ones, set objectives and feed evidence into mid-year and annual reviews.
- Raise early performance concerns with the Manager, and support them through probation reviews and career progression conversations.
- Be the escalation point for data delivery issues on the pod's projects, taking these off the Manager's desk.
- Build a development plan with each person in the pod, naming the two or three skills that will move them to the next level and the training opportunities that will get them there.
- Own onboarding and the first 90 days for new joiners into the pod.
