Digital PR Consultant

Portfolio-scale expertise, with delivery happening through people following your method rather than your instructions. You own outcomes without owning headcount, and you are the recognised expert voice in the discipline. You still own client accounts directly and do the expert work on them yourself. You codify your expertise in digital PR so others can apply it without you.

How this role differs

You move from holding depth across several accounts to owning the method for the discipline across a portfolio, including its budgets and profitability.

The Consultant owns the method and cracks what nobody else can, without owning headcount. The Digital PR Manager owns the team, the supplier mix and the commercial health of delivery.

Roles and responsibilities

  • Set the standard for PR strategy, ideation and outreach across the portfolio, making sure approaches reflect client goals, journalist needs and relevant SEO priorities.
  • Advise on complex accounts and develop strategies for sectors, clients or campaigns where established approaches have not delivered.
  • Review and challenge campaign strategies before significant resources are committed, explaining what needs to change and why.
  • Diagnose why campaigns are underperforming and develop alternative approaches with a clear rationale.
  • Lead complex client strategy conversations, handling difficult feedback and rebuilding confidence through credible recommendations and clear expectations.
  • Turn successful approaches into practical methods and guidance that others can apply independently.
  • Develop others through specialist coaching and strategic feedback, without line management responsibility.
  • Own budgets and make sure projects are profitable.
  • Own a set of client accounts directly, leading the client relationship and doing the expert work yourself.
  • Build growth cases, upsells and scopes that win on the strength of the thinking.
  • Make the case for what the discipline's tooling should be.
