Senior Organic Search Strategist
Integrated depth, held consistently across several accounts and client types. The thinking is no longer a good few months; it is a consistent and reliable standard that others learn from. You own a larger set of client accounts directly and do the work on them yourself, rather than through a team. You extend your expertise in integrated organic search across account types and become the person others learn from.
How this role differs
You move from owning the thinking on a set of accounts to holding it consistently across several accounts and client types, and to mentoring others by craft.
The Senior Strategist decides where budget sits between disciplines and mentors across both crafts. The Senior Organic Search Lead resolves the resourcing clashes and is accountable for two teams' output against one plan.
Roles and responsibilities
- Hold integrated coherence across accounts, including where the two disciplines pull in different directions.
- Make the call on where budget should sit between disciplines, with the evidence for it.
- Transfer an integrated approach that worked on one account onto another, deliberately.
- Hold senior client conversations on organic performance as a whole, without a Head of present.
- Prepare and present quarterly business reviews, actively upselling when appropriate without senior management present.
- Mentor by craft across both disciplines, so specialists understand the other side's constraints.
- Working towards owning a minimum of 6 client accounts (or £20k MRR) directly, doing the work on them yourself.
- Build roadmaps that survive changing conditions because the underlying logic is sound.
- Make the hard calls, such as when to stop something that isn't working, with the evidence for it.
- Get ahead of problems and communicate before they become issues.
- Contribute to the agency's point of view, internally at minimum.
- Support the sales team in scoping & closing new projects and proactively upselling.
- Propose a new strategy when results are not coming through, explaining the reasoning clearly to build client trust and confidence in the next steps.
- Work alongside management to ensure ideas, plans and day-to-day activity align with commercial KPIs and business priorities.
